Route and tour recommendation
We recommend starting the circular cycle path on the south bank and choosing the way back on the north bank.

Route and tour recommendation

The circular Lake Millstätter See Cycling Trail runs close to the water along the northern shore, following the Millstätter Landesstraße. The northern section of the route is paved and covered in no time thanks to its only slight gradient. It leads through the lively villages of Döbriach, Millstatt and Seeboden.

The untouched southern shore is a little more challenging. You have to pedal a bit harder on several small climbs here, but each ascent is followed by a long downhill section. The gravel path on the southern shore is mostly surrounded by forest, therefore offering plenty of shade.

On the southern shore, experienced cyclists have the opportunity to make a detour to the Egelsee. A swim in the moor lake is said to be particularly beneficial for skin, hair and joints. With its unique flora and fauna and a Kneipp trail, the lake is far from the hustle and bustle of Lake Millstätter See. Gasthof Lug ins Land is located nearby and invites you to sample a hearty organic"Jause" platter. The lookout point of the same name between the Egelsee and the inn offers a view of the Lower Drautal.

The water is a constant companion. The promenade in Döbriach invites you to have a picnic. The playgrounds by the lake also offer variety. For example: in Döbriach or Seeboden.

Those setting off early with kids can shorten the trail with the “Peter Pan” cycle ferry and take the loop that leads to the centre of Döbriach. It’s worth paying a visit to Sagamundo here, home to mermaids, giants, dwarfs and other mythical creatures. The "House of Storytelling" is sure to leave a lasting impression on the little ones.

They will certainly remember the legend of the Jungfernsprung later when you watch the climbers edging their way up from the water towards the cycle path as you enter Döbriach.

Familienurlaub am Millstätter See
A dip in the lake .... 11 lidos and four free access to the lake are on the Millstätter See cycle path.

Luckily the garden gate leads you to the "Fischimbiss im Garten" immediately after the longer ascent. The whole family will love the fish burger with delicious fresh fish from the lake.

Those who spend their family holiday in an MIC establishment enjoy free use of the lidos around Lake Millstätter See with the Millstätter See Inclusive Card.

11 lidos along the cycle path invite you to take a dip and a break. Daredevils can try out the diving tower in the Millstatt lido. Do you think Dad will jump off the 10 m platform?

The Lake Millstätter See Cycling Trail with kids...

Children should be confident cyclists and have the right fitness levels for longer tours along the Lake Millstätter See Cycling Trail. In the section between Seeboden and Schlossvilla in particular, there is a constant alternation between descents and steeper climbs. The Lake Millstätter See Cycling Trail can get busy during holiday periods and on weekends.

It doesn't always have to be the entire tour: the route between Seeboden and Millstatt leads along the main road and is flat and paved. And there is a leisurely forest section between Döbriach and the Laggerbucht.
