Schloss Porcia
Spittal
Probably one of the most beautiful Renaissance buildings north of the Alps is this palazzo, which is rightly the pride of the population. Commissioned by Gabriel of Salamanca and his descendants, Italian masters created a unique work of Renaissance art here. For a long time, the castle also served as the residence of the Princes of Porcia (1662-1918). Today, the beauty of the three-storey arcaded courtyard provides a worthy setting for cultural events of international repute (choir competitions, comedy plays). On the top two floors, the internationally awarded Museum of Folk Culture offers a variety of opportunities to marvel at and understand the cultural history of Upper Carinthia. From children's games to school history to the most diverse professions - whether in handicrafts, mining or alpine agriculture to the beginnings of tourism - there is a wide range. Highly attractive media installations such as the "Carinthia Panorama" - a walk-in zoom-in map of Carinthia on 200 m² -, the 3D picture show "Impressions from Upper Carinthia" in the pano-rama cinema or the self-controllable 3D flight over Carinthia make a visit to the museum an experience for young and old.
